Dear Grace Point Family,
Yesterday, Governor Wolf instituted a new set of temporary restrictions for both indoor and outdoor gatherings through January 4. With the number of cases in Bucks County reaching new records, these new restrictions were not unexpected. Within our own Grace Point community, we have seen several people become ill with COVID-19, and others placed in quarantine because they were in close contact with someone who tested positive.
From the time the first quarantine was instituted in March, we have said that we want to be part of the solution to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 among our church family and in the surrounding community. While technically this new set of restrictions again allows for an exemption for religious organizations, we believe that suspending in-person gatherings is the best way we can protect the health of our church family and show love to our neighbors at this time.
Since November 16, we know of at least 20 confirmed known positive cases in our GP family. In two of these cases, the infected individual attended a Grace Point gathering, and we subsequently notified the GP families/volunteers who were considered close contacts. At least 40 GP people have had to quarantine and been asked not to attend GP events due to positive cases and being in close contact with a positive case.
At the end of November Bill Wright, our Director of Finance and Operations, received a call from the Bucks County Department of Health indicating GP as a potential source for virus spread. The Department of Health at that time recommended that we go virtual but applauded our mitigation efforts.
In light of these developments, the church leadership (staff and elders) have decided the following:
Sunday Morning Worship
We will be suspending in-person worship services through January 3. Prior to the Governor’s announcement yesterday, we were already planning livestream-only services for both December 27 and January 3. We will now be adding December 13 and 20 as livestream-only services.
Other Church Events
As to other church related events and activities, we will be suspending all in-person gatherings and events at the church until January 4. Our Student Ministry and others will be offering virtual gatherings through January 4.
We will also be suspending our indoor services on December 24. We will provide a 4:00 p.m. livestream Christmas Eve service, and an outdoor service at 5:00 p.m. Please watch your GP News and our events page for more details.
These decisions have not been easy; however, we believe this is the most prudent course of action for our church at this time. Please continue in prayer for all those in leadership in these challenging days, and let us continue in our personal vigilance to make wise decisions regarding social/family gatherings. As the Apostle Paul reminds us, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant that yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3) I look forward to seeing you Sunday online, as we continue to celebrate Jesus’s “Christmas Presence” with us!
For the Kingdom,
Grace Point Office Hours
The church office will be staffed on a limited basis during the week. Because most of our staff are working remotely from home during this season, please call the office before you visit to be sure someone is there (215.968.2354). You can always email us as well to arrange a time to visit as needed. firstname.lastname@example.org
For those in our church who do not have family nearby and/or neighbors to assist you in picking up essential groceries or other necessities, please let us know so we can make arrangements to help you with this. Or, if you are willing to pick up some groceries for someone in need, please let us know that as well. Please email email@example.com or call the church office at 215.968.2354.
Prayer is also vitally important in the life of the individual believer. We want the people of Grace Point to be people of prayer, who communicate with God regularly about their own needs, and who intercede often for the needs of others. Learn more about how to pray for others and receive prayer on our Prayer page.
