Parents of SpeciAL-NEEDS cHILDREN

This will be an ongoing monthly group that is intended to be a reliable community for parents of children with special needs—a meeting that they can attend whenever they are able, for support and understanding.

vICKI, caRL AND sHERI

Vicki has been married to her husband, Howie for 44 years. They have two adult children and two granddaughters. Photographing God’s glorious creation brings her joy!

Vicki’s personal and professional experiences gave her a burden to cofacilitate the group. She holds a teaching certification in elementary education, special education, and in vision. She previously taught special education courses as an adjunct professor at Cairn University. Prior to that, she taught in Christian schools and in public schools, in general education classrooms and in special education classrooms. She has also been a Christian school administrator. God has faithfully carried her through numerous trials associated with her oldest son’s ADHD, bullying, and mental illness. Her Multiple Sclerosis gives her insight into the challenges of living with a disability.

Carl & Sheri have been married for 20 years. They have 4 children and live in Churchville. Carl works in controls engineering. Sheri homeschools their youngest son and cares for their special needs daughter. Their daughter, Ellie, was born with a form of mitochondrial disease, a medically-complex, genetic disorder that causes profound disability. Through their 19 years raising a child with disabilities, they have grown in their desire to help other families dealing with special needs feel supported and understood. Their hope is to help parents connect to a supportive community and experience the love of Jesus in their midst of their struggles.

"Held -  Learning to Live in God’s Grip: A Bible Study for Special-Needs Parents" by Lee and Sandra Peoples

A group of parents who can laugh, cry, pray and encourage one another to trust God and grow closer to Christ in the midst of the challenges of special needs, so they don’t have to go through it all alone.

Psalm 34:18.

“The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
